The Fit
You run four LLCs and an aggregates division as one operation. Your insurance should work the same way. Team Haugen builds and coordinates the whole program from one place, so the lines fit together and nothing falls into the gaps between them.
Commercial auto, general liability, environmental, workers' compensation, and inland marine spread across Western Heavy Haul and the three SMAF entities. We coordinate all of it as a single program, so coverage is not stitched together from separate brokers with separate renewal dates.
Entity-level structure, shared limits, and the way exposure moves between trucking, construction, environmental, and rentals. We design the program around the real org chart, not a template.
Team Haugen is family-led, with HUB's Pacific Northwest roots behind it. Relationships and trust carry weight here, and that is how we work, not a posture we put on for the meeting.
HUB's Transportation, Construction, and environmental practice groups bring specialty markets and technical underwriting depth to bear. The reach of a national broker, delivered by a local team that answers the phone.
Your Operation
Five divisions, one operation, and an exposure profile that touches almost every line of commercial insurance. Here is how we read the risk across the business, division by division.
Western Heavy Haul
Flatbeds, lowboys, step decks, vac trucks, water trucks, and belly dumps running five to twelve axle oversized and overweight loads across twelve Western states. A DOT-regulated fleet is the core commercial auto and transportation exposure, and the in-house repair and emergency road service add owned-equipment risk on top.
SMAF Construction
CCB-licensed excavation, grading, underground utilities, asphalt, concrete, septic, and demolition across residential and commercial jobsites in Crook County and greater Central Oregon. Active site work drives the general liability and subcontractor exposure.
SMAF Environmental
Level A, B, and C hazmat response, PFAS and petroleum soil remediation, asbestos abatement, biohazard cleanup, and railroad emergency response with HAZWOPER-certified crews and a 24/7 hotline. A high-severity environmental and pollution liability exposure serving private, public, and federal agencies.
SMAF Rents
Heavy equipment, trailers, containers, and specialty tools rented to homeowners, companies, and government across a Central Oregon footprint. Rental operations carry their own liability, inland marine, and equipment exposure distinct from the rest of the business.
Aggregates Division
A quarry supplying rock, gravel, and base materials direct to contractors across Central Oregon, integrated with Western Heavy Haul into a single supply and delivery loop. A vertically integrated exposure spanning site operations, equipment, and delivery fleet.
Fleet & Transportation
Flatbeds, lowboys, step decks, vac trucks, water trucks, and belly dumps running oversized and overweight loads across twelve Western states. A DOT-regulated fleet at this scale is the center of the program, and it deserves a broker who reads it as transportation risk, not a generic commercial auto line.
Five to twelve axle configurations hauling oversized and overweight loads carry exposures a standard fleet form was never built for. We structure transportation coverage around how the equipment actually moves, across state lines and permit regimes, not a one-size auto policy.
The 2025 Oregon Trucking Association Safety Award, second place among specialized carriers over a million miles, is an underwriting story. We bring that record to the carriers who price transportation risk on loss history, and we make sure it counts at renewal.
In-house truck and equipment repair and emergency road service capability change the risk picture. We reflect owned-equipment, garagekeepers, and on-road recovery realities in the program rather than leaving them to chance.
HUB's scale opens specialty transportation markets and the Transportation practice group's technical underwriting depth. That access is the difference between a fleet this complex being placed well and being placed piecemeal.
Environmental & Pollution
SMAF Environmental runs Level A, B, and C hazmat response, PFAS and petroleum soil remediation, asbestos abatement, biohazard cleanup, and railroad emergency response, with a 24/7 hotline and HAZWOPER-certified crews. This is a high-severity specialty line, and it is exactly the kind of exposure generalist brokers misplace.
Certified hazmat response and contaminated-soil work sit at the high-severity end of pollution liability. We place it with carriers who underwrite environmental risk directly, with limits and forms built for the work rather than wrapped into a general liability policy.
An emergency spill hotline and confined-space rescue mean crews are first on scene at the worst moments. Coverage has to follow the operation into railroad incidents, federal sites, and private cleanups, not stop at the yard gate.
PFAS and petroleum remediation carry evolving regulatory and coverage questions. We keep the program current with how carriers are treating emerging contaminants so the exposure does not outrun the policy.
HUB's environmental and pollution markets, backed by dedicated practice groups, give this line the technical narrative it needs. Smaller regional brokers cannot replicate that access on a risk this specialized.
Additional Coverages
Beyond fleet and environmental, a multi-entity operation like yours carries lines that have to be coordinated, not placed in isolation. These are the coverages we build around the core.
Your Team
The people who build and run your program. A family-led team with the depth of a national broker behind it.
